Field trip 1

“Art and World Events”
September 11th 2001 was a confusing day to me. I did not know what the World Trade Center was all I know it was in Manhattan and it was an important building. At that time I was only in the United States for three years, and I was in elementary school. I remember the sound of the crappy intercom system that my school had. I overheard a voice saying “the first building of the world trade center had been hit”. I looked around with a confused face and then ignored it a few minutes passed and the voice said “the second tower has been it we are under attack”. Again I was confused until my friend Justin started crying, I was still confused as to why he was crying. So the day went on and several kids started to be called to go home, my only thought was for me to go home at that time it was like winning the lottery. So I went home and turned on the TV and then it all made sense when I saw the news.
The first art work that I found was a panting by Todd Stone called “empty bathtub 4” this panting was made during all of the confusion that was caused. This seemed to be a good choice to me because it shows me two things, one I was not the only one who did not know what was going on and the second was when the two towers fell it exposed a big ditch but it was only the foundation. The same foundation that saved the city from more destruction, it was the idea of an engineer in case something like this happens it won’t affect the whole city. Also now this bathtub is now the home to a park to honor who lost their lives and soon a new tower as well.
The second art work again sticking with the confusion theme the art work by Cady Nolnad themed “violence are to be part of American life” it stood out to me because it looked like the remains of something that was damaged from the September 11th attack. I remember something like this when there, was a short footage of people running away from the burning buildings. It makes me think who could have done such a bad thing? And what will we do now?
The last was a strange piece to me but it made sense. It is by Lara Eararette called "Lost and Found" it was inspired by the see something say something that spawned after the attacks. It was a campaign to make New Yorks to become more aware of their surroundings. I have seen the poster everywhere but I have never heard of anyone saying anything. Also this is fits in to my confused theme because something that seems so harmless like a lost bag can cause so much pain. It can bring fear to so many people even if it is a mistake by a person.
To conclude September 11th 2001 was a confusing day for me and for it might have been the three works of art reflect on how I felt on that day. As much it was a sad day for most it was mostly confusing for me, I am thankful that no one I love was hurt in is event. I will forever have this memory my mind and heart, and soon it will be a part of history.

  1. It is emphasized that we lose a great history of art on September 9th /11.I really like your thoughts about the 9/11 happened. It was a very devastating happened in new Yorkers lives. I understand what type of problems they faced. Many people loosed their relationships and friends. It was very heart touching situation for the New York people. I can imagine how they have empathy to get out from those all of terrible situations where they faced.
