“Quiz Make Up”.

For my extra credit work it chose the work Eleanor Antin, who is inspired by the Roman Empire. Her work shows how the Romans would fight and how their people of higher power would lavish themselves with things and beautiful women. Eleanor would mostly work with people beacuse she likes their own individual charter that each and everyone has, also she likes the fact they offer different artistic views. Her work is mostly pictures of the Roman higher power. I am not a very big fan of the Roman higher power but I am a fan of the buildings that they create. Also the inspiration that is taken from the Roman Empire that still can be seen today.

Eleanor also has a great love for narrative; she has small and big figures of narrative. One of her art works is narrative themed is “The Angle of Mercy”, 1981. Narrative is somewhat like a story that is put together by different elements. Narrative is something I like; I would like to create a narrative I believe with my creative mind I would be able to create something interesting. Another of her work is “Love’s Shadow”, 1987 this art work is about herself discovery and this I understand because at some point in our lives this phase helps us well find ourselves for some people this lasts a lifetime. Her most interesting art work was “100 boots” this work of art features 100 boots doing what seems like random things, for example the boots can go to church, and walk around a corner, even the 100 boots can even make mischief like trespass or walk on someone’s car. I think that the 100 boots can be a person that is walking to a place, and the boots can be in place of the person’s footsteps.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art responce and Final Project

The metropolitan museum of art holds art works from around the world, so I needed a theme that complements this unique quality. So I thought of something and I came up with a person. Indiana Jones he has been around the world and back, and has most likely seen most of these art works at some point. Keeping in mind that he is only a fictional character. My theme is “What if I were Indiana Jones”. I thought of this theme to complement the museum and my vivid imagination. My theme became true as I went on my “adventure” to find art.

I imagined  I was in a dark brown jacket, brown shirt, a round adventure hat and a whip and I walked  myself to  “Egyptian Art” section where I found the  “the statue of the goddess Sackhmet” from  the 18th dynasty of Amenhotep the 3rd. When I saw this I thought she is going to come alive and try and kill me for entering her tomb. When this came to mind she did come alive and try to kill me so I ran away from the “Egyptian art” and trying to flee from the goddess I ended up in the second section called the “Greek and Roman Art” there I ran into a room and in the room was the work of art the “Marble statue of a lion” Greek, Cycladic.
The same scenario repeated itself like the Egyptian goddess that I walked up to some forbidden Greek temple and it came alive and again try and kill me. At this point I feel as though I have a short life expectancy with everything trying to kill me.  As I am running to my air plane and finally flew to another section my air plane experienced some “engine” problems and crashed in the “Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later south Asia” there I got out of my aircraft and I walked to a nearby temple to see what I can see. I walked in and no one was there but this strange animal like figure, as my luck would have it once again it came alive it was as dog not just any dog a special one it was “ Incense Burner of Amir Saif al-Din Muhammad al-Mawardi” this “green dog” played with me and I was nice enough to take him home with me until my adventure goes on.

“Chelsea Galleries Reaction”

I have a hobby where I collect cars when I mean cars I mean 1:18 scale model cars. They range from GT ( Grand Touring) cars like the BMW M6, to super cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Ferrari 360 ( this is my favorite Ferrari due to its engine note that sounds like an F1 car) I also have regular cars you see everyday like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and even a Mercedes-Benz DTM race car. They all differ in size shape and color but they all have one thing in common they have a small place in my heart. But the best of all of these cars are the two I call Loki and Loki Jr. Unlike my model cars they are real cars I drive and work on every day. Loki is a 1997 Mazda Protégé and Loki Jr. is a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder.  So when I was assigned this role as an art collector, I applied my own personality and the same eye that I use to pick and choose my model cars. While on the topic of cars the first work of art I would like to collect is this collage by Blazon. It caught my eye because there was a little yellow car in the middle but from a distance I was not sure what it was until I got closer and saw it was a Lotus Elise. Around it were several pictures of rims, and gold chains. The frame itself reminded me of my brother Ryan who like expensive things, because it had a Louis Vinton print and what looks fur. I would like to collect due to its connection with cars and its loud “LOOK AT ME” appeal, though I am not the one to draw unnecessary attention to myself. I would keep it around my home just to add a little “bling” to the space it is placed on. The art work I would not like to collect is Erica Magrey and her huge work with this free standing steel, as much as this is a beautiful work of art I don’t want it to fall on my head and squash me like a bug. I don’t like something that may kill me in ten minutes or even ten years.

“Illustrate a Story”

The reason why I picked this story from the website, was my family was struggling with something simmalar to this. It was hard for my family to face this problem like the daughter in the story, so I can relate to her pain and her sadness. But unlike her mother my family choose not to pick this route, we chose to take care of this member of our family ourselves. That is the reason why I chose this story.

“Brooklyn Museum Reaction”

The Brooklyn museum is a place I have not known it existed. Until I saw it for the first time during Kiddies Carnival, which was held in the same area at the time I did not think much of it until I went back and seen the museum. Being in the museum was a pleasant experience though we ended up doing the trip from the top to the bottom. It started with the odd works by “Sanford Biggers” and his art work called “Lotus” where Biggers has turned a slave ship into something that looks like a dream catcher. To the slaves who were unfortunate enough to be trapped in one of these ships it all maybe a bad dream, but to me I commend Sanford Biggers for turning a sad history into a wonderful art work. Much like the name of the section “Sanford Biggers: Sweet Funk-An Introspective”, this goes very well with the section and much like the artist who I believe is nuttier than a bag of nuts I think it perfect.
The next section I saw was the “Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties”, this was a bit strange to me the name to me seems like mostly modern things but I was sadly mistaken. Though I did manage to find something that caught my eye this strange statue by Harriet Whitney Fishmuth called “Slavonic dance” it reminded me of something in the Olympic Games of old, when it was done in the nude by the Greeks long ago. Also the dance that he looked like he was going reminded me of something my eight year old brother does in his dance class. The last exhibit was “The Latino List” was confusing at first because it was just a place filled with people who happened to be Latino, and then it hit me they are all much achieved people in their own right. So I walked around the room and stumbled on this Latino man named Jose Moreno Hernandez, the reason I stopped was he was astronaut. I did not know there was a Latino astronaut so that is good to know; also someone very close to my heart inspires to be an astronaut.
Lastly the surprise that we saw was “The Dinner Party” by Judy Chicago it was very interesting to see this exhibit for a few reasons the first is the shape of the table, it was in the shape of a triangle normally for a large dinner party it is in the shape of a large circle or a rectangle. The second thing is each person had their own place in the table and they were all unique. It must have taken years to complete and it is very striking.

“Narrative Digital Collage” paragraph

This digital collage was inspired by the old episodes of South Park, when the outlines of the charters would show. The other inspiration is a continuation of my art food project was jaws take his revenge on me for eating him. Lastly I am fishing for once again for shark and then I am eaten by jaws, I am accompanied by Sponge Bob Square Pants, Captain Jack Sparrow , and Black Beard.

Sculpture Center Reaction

How an art work is shown is as important as how it looks; this I have learned when I stepped in The Sculpture Center. My first impression was this is a very big place and the outside looked like any other building in the area, but when I stepped inside it seemed to shrink. I knew the history of the place and I am reluctant to say it feels the same in the inside but that is the intent of the designer. This also was confirmed by the first thing you see, besides the front desk it is the huge statue of what looks like to me a monster. This was built by Sanford Biggers it is called “ A Joia Do Orixa” I am not sure what it means but I hope it does not mean “big scary monster”, this made the space seem small due to her size and her color ( red). In a space that is not The Sculpture Center it won’t have same effect. The same goes for this odd looking well “welcome mat” had a picture of a little man fixing a pipe it is by Danna Vajda and it is called “sweptunderug”; this made me think two things because of the building it made sense its someone that use to work here, but on the other hand I would think there is a trap door below it and if I step there I am sure to fall in a pit of some sort. Lastly was something that made me glad that I know karate, it was in a room with strange light red and blue and it had a strange smell that I could not put my figure on. Also o my surprise my Iphone just so happen to lose when I stepped into this area. This picture was one of a girl with a number of tattoos and piercings, due to the space I half expected her to live in the Sculpture Center. It is by Rona Yefman and it’s called” Shanghi Kate”. If this was in a palace like MoMa it would only look like a teenage girl who is a bit “strange” , but in the Sculpture Center she fits in and not only that the hallway that this picture is in  the perfect home. Also it is perfect for the point she is trying to represent the “underground” world of tattoos and piercings.

“Design in Our Lives Reaction”

Field Trip 2
High Function art to me is art that moves a person. It creates some sort of inspiration, or it makes the viewer think. This is made easier with modern technology it enables the artiest to make art seem “alive”. An example of this is the exhibit “Hi, a Real Human Interface” it is an exhibit where all the functions of a computer are done by a human. It answers the question can a computer be human? It just takes a man in a clear box and a lot of creativity to make a computer human, also some holes to breathe can’t hurt either. Another example can be found in the millions of subway stations across the New York area, and that is the “Metro Card Veining Machine” this exhibit is one we take for granted every day. Millions of commuters use these machines to get metro cards then rush to catch the train that is pulling away. But what makes this unique it was purpose built with New Yorkers and the thousands of tourist alike it is meant to make buying a metro card easy and most off all fast. This machine may look simple but it is not. It is meant to make a complex process easy; in short it makes the task of buying a metro card easy, fast and friendly to a certain degree. They both have in common that they make a complex simple.
Low function art is to me art that well does not do much is simple and only has one job. Most art to me is low function most just do one thing and most of the time it is jut to sit there and look pretty. Some do a little bit more some make a point in a small way. This is the “Tweenbot” its only goal is to get to a certain place. Now this does sound like high function but it is not. The “Tweenbot” relies on only the help of others to get to its destination. To add to is simplicity it can only move in one direction and that is forward. A little white flag tells people where it would like to go; sometimes it gets there by the kindness of others sometimes the confusion of others as well. Also to avid danger it again relies on people to help it. Another exhibit was “Newsmap” it shows news from all over the world on what looks like a 12 inch TV. Again seems high function but this is only on this small 12 inch TV in the Museum of Modern arts, it will be better if it was available to the thousands of cell phones, Ipad’s , blackberries and other smart devices. But it’s not it’s just in one place. News is supposed to be available to everyone not just a group of people.
Low and High function do have their meeting points when high function exhibits like the metro card machine it makes a task simple. Or even the human computer; is another one when a million wires are replaces with a smile, and an actual person will it be the same thing? Will we take for granted a computer if it had a person in it? Or will we be more human? Despite all this low and high function do meet.

Good Art Bad Art

Good Art in my opinion is something that is understood. Not to say good art is simple it also can be complex or have some depth. Good art is a lot of things but still understood but by a grneral population,or even a single person, a group of people. Good art is hard to define it is different from person to person, so there for to me Good art is understood art.

Bad Art by my opinion is art that is misunderstood. Not all art can be undertood by all people sometimes the one who created it can be the only understand. Some art may take a differnt kind of thinking for a diferent kind of person. To me a misunderstood art work sometimes get's the label "bad art" and that is not fair, to just label something that is not fully understood.

Field trip 1

“Art and World Events”
September 11th 2001 was a confusing day to me. I did not know what the World Trade Center was all I know it was in Manhattan and it was an important building. At that time I was only in the United States for three years, and I was in elementary school. I remember the sound of the crappy intercom system that my school had. I overheard a voice saying “the first building of the world trade center had been hit”. I looked around with a confused face and then ignored it a few minutes passed and the voice said “the second tower has been it we are under attack”. Again I was confused until my friend Justin started crying, I was still confused as to why he was crying. So the day went on and several kids started to be called to go home, my only thought was for me to go home at that time it was like winning the lottery. So I went home and turned on the TV and then it all made sense when I saw the news.
The first art work that I found was a panting by Todd Stone called “empty bathtub 4” this panting was made during all of the confusion that was caused. This seemed to be a good choice to me because it shows me two things, one I was not the only one who did not know what was going on and the second was when the two towers fell it exposed a big ditch but it was only the foundation. The same foundation that saved the city from more destruction, it was the idea of an engineer in case something like this happens it won’t affect the whole city. Also now this bathtub is now the home to a park to honor who lost their lives and soon a new tower as well.
The second art work again sticking with the confusion theme the art work by Cady Nolnad themed “violence are to be part of American life” it stood out to me because it looked like the remains of something that was damaged from the September 11th attack. I remember something like this when there, was a short footage of people running away from the burning buildings. It makes me think who could have done such a bad thing? And what will we do now?
The last was a strange piece to me but it made sense. It is by Lara Eararette called "Lost and Found" it was inspired by the see something say something that spawned after the attacks. It was a campaign to make New Yorks to become more aware of their surroundings. I have seen the poster everywhere but I have never heard of anyone saying anything. Also this is fits in to my confused theme because something that seems so harmless like a lost bag can cause so much pain. It can bring fear to so many people even if it is a mistake by a person.
To conclude September 11th 2001 was a confusing day for me and for it might have been the three works of art reflect on how I felt on that day. As much it was a sad day for most it was mostly confusing for me, I am thankful that no one I love was hurt in is event. I will forever have this memory my mind and heart, and soon it will be a part of history.
